Why did Johnny de Mol rise so explosively? ‘Keti Koti zappers!’

Angela de Jong thinks the jubilation of viewers like Tina Nijkamp about the explosive rise of the Johnny de Mol show De Kwis met Ballen is unjustified. “All Keti Koti get-aways!”

It rarely happens that a program wins so many viewers after the first episode as the new Johnny de Mol show Een Kwis met Ballen. The jump he made last Saturday was impressive: from 385 thousand viewers for the premiere episode to 738 thousand viewers for the second episode. How is this possible?!

Undeserved cheer

Angela de Jong finds it quite explicable. She points out that the second episode was directly opposite a real viewing figure pit on NPO 1, namely the registration of the Keti Koti celebration in Amsterdam. Only 284 thousand people watched it, while Ik Departure scored a million viewers at the same time a week earlier.

The jubilation about that explosive increase in viewing figures is therefore not justified, according to Angela. She says in the AD Media podcast: “I am curious what it will do next week. Did you see what was on NPO 1 at the same time slot? What 1 million people watched the week before, I believe? There was now the Keti Koti celebration.”

Viewers adrift

The Keti Koti celebration attracted very few viewers. “There were quite a few viewers adrift looking for something fun, I think. And probably stuck after that Tribute thing that came before it on SBS 6. So we’re not going to talk about it being a real success until it hits huge again next week. I really have yet to see it.”

Finally, Angela sticks to her criticism that Johnny is wearing a very ugly shirt in De Kwis met Ballen. “I think it’s ugly that shirt, but he has to know that himself.”

The Daily Hit

Keti Koti zappers or not: because of that high score, Johnny’s TV show was ‘The Daily Hit’ in an influential newsletter in the TV world, according to Tina Nijkamp:
