Why did HHB continue without Janny? ‘Robèrt had to go on vacation!’

Robèrt van Beckhoven disagrees with the criticism of the semi-final of Heel Holland Bakt. In it, fellow jury member Janny van der Heijden shone through his absence. “I had to go on vacation!”

The semi-finals of Heel Holland Bakt looked very bare two weeks ago. Not only one of the participants, but also jury member Janny van der Heijden was absent due to illness. She was only there via a video connection on the iPad, which is of course much less fun for the loyal viewer.

Sick Johnny

Robèrt van Beckhoven, her fellow jury member, has less difficulty with it. “Janny can’t help that, sick is sick. You can’t postpone a program like that, it’s too big a production for that. Saying: ‘We’ll do that next week’, that’s not possible. It is the holiday season, everyone has to go on holiday, everything is booked, the tent has long been rented.”

He continues in conversation with magazine Weekend: “That’s not possible, you can’t just postpone everything. And she was there too, but digitally. She has tasted everything, lives close by, so that went very well. One of the bakers was also sick. She also had the well-known virus, corona.”

On holiday

Tina Nijkamp states that the recordings could easily have been postponed. “Normally, TV production companies take out Non-Appearance insurance,” said the former SBS 6 broadcaster boss recently. “That means that in the event of the illness of a key person, the damage caused by not recording on a planned recording day is compensated.”

What does Robert say about that? “Yes, but at Heel Holland Bakt we had to deal with people who were going on holiday the next day. Me too. No, you just have to finish it. I think it’s a very good solution. Again: Janny was just there and tasted everything, everything was sent to her.”

Finally, Robèrt also says that he never takes XTC. “No dude, madness.”
