Why Argentina is the country that consumes the most cookies per year

Conceived as a suitable food to consume in multiple options, cookies have become a snack present in all homes. The history of this candy covers a very long time line and also has a long presence in many geographical latitudes.

Its existence dates back to 500 BC, in the Old Persian Empire, as a food that accompanied travelers on their long journeys. With the passage of time, the cookies arrived in Europe and, finally, landed on the American continent. The story of how the word “cookie” arose is also interesting. The surveys in this regard account for the first references written in the French language, with the expression “galette”.

Carolina Giannattasio, gastronomic advisor for Galletitas Fachitas, explains that recent statistical studies show that Argentina is the country that consumes the most cookies per year. The amount consumed by each Argentine is estimated to be around 12 and 13 kilos, doubling and taking advantage of countries like Mexico or the United States. These data have led the main producing companies to increase their production and also to think about a variety of flavors.

In the case of Fachitas, the national production company offers numerous flavors and textures, such as the classic Mini Tapitas of alfajores, Tartitas and Mini Coronitas. Currently, at the forefront of world consumption, two lines of cookies with raw materials of 100% vegetable origin were launched: the Mini Coronitas Avena (with its oatmeal and raisin, oatmeal and chips, and oatmeal and cocoa flavors) and the Mini Coronitas Snacks ( in ham, pizza, cheese and original varieties).
