For this reason, to commemorate the Patron Saint of San Isidro, the municipality will be developing different activities during May. The central event will be this Monday, May 15, starting at 4:00 p.m., with the tour of the image of the Saint through the historic center. Then, an hour later, at the Cathedral, located at Avenida del Libertador 16200, the mass will take place, presided over by the local bishop, Monsignor Oscar Ojea.
In addition, there will be different activities within the framework of the celebrations. A new edition of “San Isidro Invita” will be held with promotions, discounts and special menus for the occasion. There will also be a guided tour with limited space. This saint, patron of Villa of Madrid and farmers, he was born in the capital of Spain in the year 1080. Although there is not much biographical information about the saint, it seems that he came into the world in a very humble family, shortly before the reconquest of Madrid, in a house located where Calle de las Aguas is currently located. He was orphaned very soon, so the young Isidro looked for his livelihood with jobs as a well until he finally got a job as a farmer.

The beatification, pronounced by the Pope Paul V on June 14, 1619, at the behest of the king Philip III, It was an event long awaited by the people of Madrid; to commemorate the event, great festivities were held, during which the Plaza Mayor was inaugurated. In 1622, Isidro, who was already a saint in the memory of the people, was canonized by the Pope Gregory XV, along with Santa Teresa de Jesús, San Ignacio de Loyola, San Francisco Javier and San Felipe Neri.
