Apples and pears, ABBA and Black Sabbath: Johannes Eckerström thinks that ABBA’s comeback is better than Black Sabbath’s. The frontman of the Swedish metal band Avatar compares the new album by the Swedes VOYAGE (2021) with Black Sabbaths 13 (2013).
“ABBA’s reunion album is better than Black Sabbath’s. Just saying,” Eckerstrom wrote on Twitter. “[Es klingt wie] a divorce disco and a seniors musical… and a second marriage boogie.”
Black Sabbath’s album sounds too ‘artificial’ for Eckerström
In a recent interview with “Metal Hammer” more specifically what he was saying at the time: “I’m a bigger fan of Black Sabbath than ABBA, but I felt that Sabbath’s material resonated with [dem Produzenten] Rick Rubin finally seems artificial. I think Rick told them to pretend they were 25 and it doesn’t work. It didn’t have the energy it needed, and it didn’t evolve.”
Eckerstrom continues, “But on ABBA’s new album, there’s one song where I’m like, ‘This sounds like divorce disco!’ Ha ha ha! These are songs by people in their age group, with the life experiences of this age group. When you have a reunion in your 70s, you have to give it meaning. That’s where Sabbath made a mistake.”
