Why a disinfectant cleaner is not always necessary for house cleaning

Disinfectants kill microorganisms. What sounds good can, however, have long-term consequences for your health. Experts therefore advise not to use disinfectant cleaners when cleaning the house.

When cleaning the house, disinfectants and corresponding cleaners should be avoided – normally.

Because the usual cleaning agents are usually sufficient to remove microorganisms sufficiently. The Federal Environment Agency points this out.

This also applies in Corona times!

The Federal Environment Agency refers to an assessment by the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, according to which there is no need for healthy people to use disinfectants in private households even in the current situation. In exceptional cases, a doctor can recommend this.

▶︎The reason for the waiver: according to studies, allergies occur more frequently in households in which disinfectants are used more frequently, according to the experts from the Federal Environment Agency.

▶︎ And the ingredients in the cleaners, some of which are difficult to degrade, get into the wastewater with the cleaning water, which is then poured away and thus pollute the sewage treatment plants.

Above all, use all-purpose cleaners and detergents

No special cleaning agents are required for cleaning. A small selection of all-purpose cleaners, washing-up liquid, bathroom cleaners and kitchen cleaners, including scouring milk, are all you need to remove dirt from surfaces that are resistant to wiping and scrubbing.

Another piece of advice from the experts: use microfiber cloths. Thanks to their fabric structure, they absorb a lot of dirt and need little water and cleaning agents.
