Bram van den Berg will fill in for Larry Mullen Jr. at U2’s “Achtung Baby” concerts in Las Vegas. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share the stage with Bono, The Edge and Adam in Las Vegas,” the drummer wrote on his Instagram. “These are big shoes to fill but Larry and the band have been so supportive I can’t wait!”

Mullen Jr. will be out for surgery and wants to regenerate. U2 said in a statement they would have to get used to playing without him. However, they welcomed van den Berg and called him “a force of the powers in his field”. It is not yet clear how the Irish came up with the Dutchman.

Van den Berg previously drummed for alternative rock band Krezip, which he is now temporarily leaving. “We will miss him terribly in the coming time,” wrote his colleagues on Instagram. They are “incredibly proud” of him: “It’s unbelievable that a legendary band like U2 and also one of Bram’s favorite bands has approached him! Of course, we’ve known for a long time how good he is!” They wished the musician “a gigantic adventure like no other, knowing full well that he will return to us at some point”.

Who is Krezip?

Krezip was founded in 1997 by singer Jacqueline Govaert and her sister Anne in Tilburg. Three years later they had their breakthrough at the Pinkpop Festival with the title “I Would Stay”. Their debut album Nothing Less was released in the same year and was certified triple platinum in the Netherlands. Between 2002 and 2003 van den Berg joined the formation. Three more studio albums followed, a best-of compilation and a live album with which the group said goodbye in 2009.

Ten years after the breakup, Krezip got back together. They have now announced their sixth studio album, Any Day Now, which is due out on April 7th, 2023. On February 27th the first release “In The Water” will be released. While van den Berg is touring with U2, Bram Hakkens will support Krezip on the upcoming club tour and festivals.
