A month after the destruction of the rainbow flag at the Het Mozaïek child center in Broek op Langedijk, the police are still looking for the perpetrator. So far, one witness has come forward. And that is too poor, a spokesperson explains: “One witness is not a witness.”
That morning of November 9, an employee discovered upon arrival that the rainbow flag of the primary school is torn into shreds. Opposite the child center is a wooden sign with a slogan from the Bible on it. The flag was there at the request of the children in connection with the celebration of The Week of Respect.
Director Helene de Vries filed a report, but the police investigation has not yet led to an arrest, a spokesperson said. “We are looking at camera images and have a witness statement, but we hope for more information. That is why we strongly ask people who have seen something to come forward. Anonymously if necessary.”
Theater Cool in Heerhugowaard also raised the rainbow flag in solidarity it was destroyed less than a day later. Ultimately, only a report was made of this. “It was not possible to report it because there were insufficient indications.” The police do not know whether there is a connection between the two vandalisms.
