The clubs are drawn from the individual pots one after the other. It starts with pot 1. A group is then drawn for each drawn club. A team cannot play against a team from its own country in the group stage. Certain top teams are also not allowed to play on the same day to optimize the TV broadcast. If FC Bayern were in Groups A to D, BVB would have to be in Groups E to H, for example.

For the last time 32 teams take part in the Champions League. From the 2024/2025 season there will be 36 teams. FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Union Berlin have qualified from the Bundesliga. For the Köpenicker it is the first participation in the premier class.
