The law on oncological oblivion

The same will apply to taking out insurance, obtaining a mortgage, or other forms of financingto adopt a minor. It is sanctioned by bill on the right to be forgotten oncology passed unanimously in the House on August 3which will pass to the Senate for the final go-ahead.

«It is also a cultural revolution: debunks the equation “cancer equals death” and equates clinical healing with social healing – comments Elisabetta Iannelli, secretary of the Italian Federation of voluntary associations in oncology -. Employers, banks and insurance companies – she explains – they will no longer be able to request health checks or information on the candidates’ state of health with regard to oncological pathologies whose treatment has been completed, in the absence of recurrence, for 10 years (or 5 in cases established by law). This information cannot be requested from those who participate in competitions.’

Of the 3.6 million Italians who live with a previous diagnosis of cancer, one million can be considered cured. “The bill – says Iannelli – provides that the Ministry of Health defines by decree the list of neoplasms, such as testicular or thyroid cancer, to which to apply shorter healing times”.
