The vacancy for the new mayor of the municipality of Medemblik has resulted in thirteen candidates. The new mayor (or mother) is expected to be installed by the end of September.
Eleven men and two women want to become mayor of the municipality of Medemblik. This was announced today by the King’s Commissioner, Arthur van Dijk. Ten applicants have a background in public administration, the rest come from the corporate or private sector.
The vacancy at the town hall in Wognum arose after Frank Streng announced that he would retire at the end of last year as mayor. He has been struggling with health problems for some time after he was diagnosed with intercostal neuralgia (a nerve pain).
Dennis Straat has been acting mayor since then until there is a successor. It is expected that this will be on September 26 this year. He himself does not want to say anything about his own future. “That’s up to the city council,” says Straat.
