The municipality of Zaanstad is fifty years old and to celebrate there will be a Walk of Fame on the Wormerveerse Zaanbocht. This will be followed by 25 Zaankanters who have contributed something to their environment. Many nominations have already been received, but a few more can be added. NH reporter Rowan van Dam wanted to know: which Zaankanter would you like to walk on at the Walk of Fame?
There are not many conditions for being allowed to nominate someone. In any case, that person must be a Zaankanter and work in an inspiring and positive manner. All submitted names are reviewed by a two-member jury, who then make a decision.
That doesn’t seem to be going to be easy. We hear the originally Zaan national coach Ronald Koeman in the suggestions, Wolter Kroes, Najib Amhali… but Sandra van der Weij and Leon Hamming, known in Wormerveer, are also mentioned. In any case, the son of councilor Stephanie Onclin, who explains the initiative in front of our camera, scores bonus points when we ask him who he wants on it: “Mama!”.
The registration runs until March 3.
