Of the 1,000 households surveyed, two in five families have at least one family member with a chronic illness such as heart disease, diabetes or cancer. For 30 percent of them it has become difficult to obtain the necessary care due to the war situation. Health care is no longer available in several Ukrainian areas.
“In recent weeks, with the help of our partners, WHO has been able to reach 7.5 million people,” said Jarno Habicht, WHO representative in Ukraine. “Yet we have not yet been able to help the most affected areas in the east, where the health system has collapsed.”
The WHO verified as many as 162 Russian attacks on health facilities. It is becoming more and more a challenge for them to provide (regular) care. In addition, there is still a risk of contamination with the coronavirus. The war has severely disrupted the Ukrainian vaccination campaign.
