Stones were thrown on the solar panels at the parking lot of football association VV Succes in Hippolytushoef this weekend. The club suspects that young people are behind the action and is looking for the perpetrators. “It’s just vandalism,” says chairman Geert Jasper of Stichting Sportcentrum Wieringen. “Hopefully nothing is broken.”
It is not known when the stones were thrown on the solar panels, but the club suspects Saturday night. “We have called the police and are going to file a report,” says Geert Jasper. “We have already cleaned up everything. Hopefully nothing is broken. We cannot see it that way, but keep an eye on what the solar panels yield. If that is less than before, something is broken.”
The panels are located on a kind of roof above the parking lot at the football club. The perpetrators are not yet in sight. Access to the car park, which also gives access to the handball fields and the sports hall, is not closed and camera images are not (yet) available.
Renovation
But Jasper suspects that young people are behind the vandalism. “Two football fields are now being renovated,” he says. “New soil, new grass, a sprinkler system. They’re still working on that for a few weeks. And that’s why the parking lot is full of sand. I think some youth played with it and started throwing bricks.”
Despite having no clues, he hopes so the message posted on Facebook leads to the perpetrators. “It’s just vandalism, whether the panels are broken or not.” It is extra sour that a volunteer fell off a ladder while clearing the stones. Jasper: “That’s why he broke his arm. Of course that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.”
