The 64th Grammys had some turbulence to contend with. First the pandemic uncertainty last winter, then the January cancellation for the traditional Los Angeles venue. Most recently, there was Beef with Kanye West, who received a serious rebuke from the Recording Academy because of his riot messages on Instagram – and then canceled everything.

Details are now being confirmed for the ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, April 4th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Grammys 2022: These musicians are there

The live program will now also feature the Foo Fighters, “Late Show” arranger Jon Batiste, HER, Nas and country warhorse Chris Stapleton.

Already in the run-up there was an info momentum for live performances by Brothers Osborne, BTS, Brandi Carlile, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X along with Jack Harlow and Olivia Rodrigo. The mega show will be moderated by comedian Trevor Nash, who was already at the start last year.

It is an open secret that the live performances may have something to do with the later awards. Jon Batiste, for example, has eleven nominations, including album of the year for his soul opus “We Are” and song of the year for “Freedom”.

HER have eight nominations. The Foo Fighters on three, like Best Rock Album for “Medicine at Midnight.” Stapleton is also nominated three times, including Best Country Album for “Starting Over.” Nas was nominated twice, Best Rap Album for “King’s Disease II”.

Memoriam show for Stephen Sondheim

In addition, a special memorial show for musical legend Stephen Sondheim, who passed away last November, has been announced for the Grammy broadcast. Sondheim wrote the lyrics to “West Side Story” in the 1950s and later composed numerous Broadway hits such as “Sweeney Todd”, “Sunday in the Park with George” or “Into the Woods”.

For the Sondheim revue, actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, colleague Leslie Odom Jr. as well as Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler will remember his most famous stage songs.
