In the music clip for “Angry” by the Rolling Stones, Sydney Sweeney lets herself be driven around in a red vehicle, raises her arms, moves rhythmically and pushes herself over the car. She presents herself to the camera with a permanent smile. But who exactly is she?
Forever the “Best Supporting Actress”?
Her face is not unfamiliar – the mime has already starred in both “Euphoria” seasons and also in the first season of “The White Lotus”. For both parts, she received a nomination at the Primetime Emmy Awards for “Best Supporting Actress” in 2022 – but in the end she wasn’t allowed to take the trophy home.
Especially in “Euphoria” her development from a girl in the clique, who doesn’t necessarily stand out due to her special features, to a love addict, where everything revolves around one man, is an essential point of the second season. Her desire to please this one guy who used to date her best friend goes even further. She gets up early in the morning and dresses excessively until she feels like he can’t help but look at her. The fact that this is not the case proves to be a dramatic turning point in the series.
Also in “The White Lotus” she plays with full devotion. Here she is the daughter of a successful journalist who, on vacation, has the feeling that she is simply better than the others. If only because she has her friend with her, with whom she can gossip about everyone around her and always has an ally who confirms her – everyone else is just not as smart as she is. Together, the two play their little games with the people in the rich department and have a great time – until boredom catches up with them and they only want to resort to drugs.
These two series have made her a name in the business and a popular actress. But they were far from the beginning of her career.
Not only series, but also big screen
She was also a key character in 2018’s The Handmaid’s Tale. And she was also allowed to play an important leading role in “Everything Sucks!”. But it shouldn’t just be series for Mimin, who was born in Washington in 1997.
The 1.61 tall actress gives a convincing performance as a whistleblower Reality Winner in the work “Reality”, which was celebrated at the 2023 Berlinale, and can thus hope for a great rain of prizes.
Sydney Sweeney swims against the tide
So far she has appeared in more than 40 film and TV productions and is also the face of Armani Beauty.
She is a character actress but also reveals a lot in interviews. She once told The Hollywood Reporter, “I want to have a family, I’ve always wanted to be a new mom, and I’m concerned about how this industry stigmatizes young women who have kids and them in one viewed in a different light. I worried that if I didn’t work, I wouldn’t have the money and support for the kids I would have.” And so she brought the issue of money and money concerns out in the open in a way rarely seen in Hollywood is.
In fact, Sweeney doesn’t want to rely solely on acting and has also earned a degree in entrepreneurship on the side. Sydney Sweeney turns 26 on September 12th.
