The novel “Trust”of the Argentine writer Hernan Diazwas chosen as one of the recommended books of the year by the prestigious newspaper The New York Times and culture magazinelThe New Yorker. As every year, these two publications from the “Big Apple” chose a short list of “essential reading” one of the most interesting authors of the moment and the author of “In the Distance” stood out on the payroll.
The successful novel, which has not yet been published in Spanish, is a narrative puzzle about power and capitalism in the Empire State city, during the second decade of the 20th century. In this story, a single mother is willing to do anything to get the care and affection of her daughter. Until now it has been confirmed that “Trust”, which in March 2023 will be published and translated into Spanish by Anagramobtained versions in 25 languages with excellent reviews.

Born in Buenos Aires in 1973, Hernan Diaz He grew up in Sweden and has spent most of his life in the United States, where he received his doctorate in philosophy from the new york university. Today, the novelist continues to live in the “city that never sleeps” and alternates his writing career with teaching at Columbia University and as editor of an academic journal at the Hispanic Institute.

The author, son of a psychoanalyst and a filmmaker, went into exile at the early age of two with his family to Sweden, during the last Argentine military dictatorship. Later, with the arrival of democracy, he returned to the country, but the social adaptation always marked difficulties for him. Studies in New York earned him the opportunity to publish his first literary theory essay on the author of “El Aleph” entitled “Borges: between history and eternity” (2012), where he analyzes the work of Jorge Luis Borges as a champion of literary disputes who remade the canon.
However, with his first novel “In the distance” (published in Spanish by Impedimenta), within the western genre, was placed on the radar of the most renowned emerging authors in North America. In 2018, Hernán Díaz was one of the finalists for the award pulitzer and of the PEN–Faulkner Award fiction, making critics across the United States wonder: Who is this Argentine?
This year, the adaptation rights were obtained by the streaming platform HBO Max. According to information from the chain, the pre-production of the content has just begun and it is looking for a scriptwriter to adapt the book. For this reason, like the novel, it is estimated that the content plays with a feminist perspective on truth as a narrative construction and how the stories modify our perception of the facts.
Kate Winslet will play Mildred Pierce, in a story of wealth, talent, trust, betrayal and manipulation that could earn the Australian actress her third Emmy after her two previous collaborations with HBO Max. On the other hand, both the Argentine author and the interpreter of “Titanic” are executive producers of the upcoming miniseries.
