Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, Iggy Pop, Miley Cyrus – Andrew Watt has worked with many musicians and has always been enthusiastic. Some call him a genius, others praise his versatility. Already in 2021 there was the Grammy for producer of the year.
Now Watt has taken over the production of the new Rolling Stones album together with Don Was. Will he bring a fresh twist to Hackney Diamonds like he did to the Ozzy Osbourne song “Ordinary Man” with Elton John on the mic?
Andrew Watt, born October 20, 1990 in New York City, began his musical career as a guitarist and singer in various bands. He worked with Jared Evan, Cody Simpson and Justin Bieber. He got his first solo steps in 2013 as part of the rock band California Breed alongside Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) and Jason Bonham (Foreigner). Watt has always had great support, with Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Joey Castillo of Queens of the Stone Age playing drums on his debut EP, Ghost In My Head.
Breakthrough with Justin Bieber
However, his breakthrough as a songwriter and producer came when he worked on hits by Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Post Malone and Camila Cabello. Bieber’s “Let Me Love You” and Cabello’s “Havana” are among the most well-known songs he refined. In addition to his producing work, Watt has also been an active musician, playing guitar for Iggy Pop and singing at a tribute show for The Doors’ Ray Manzarek.
He finally made the top list of producers with the production of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Ordinary Man”. Watt was just 30 years old then. Again and again the musician succeeded in connecting old warriors and new heroes or heroines. He produced Miley Cyrus’ infamous version of Nothing Else Matters for the Metallica tribute album The Metallica Blacklist. Last year he helped Eddie Vedder on his solo LP Earthling and is already booked to produce Pearl Jam’s upcoming record.
A lot of work for a man who, as a musician, already presented his debut album in 2020 with “The Way Out”, which will certainly be followed by another one soon. Most recently, Watt produced Iggy Pop’s new record, Every Loser. He co-produced Post Malone’s “Austin” and the new Maroon 5 song “Middle Ground”.
Incidentally, Watt is currently dating model and singer-songwriter Charlotte Lawrence, after a four-year relationship with Rita Ora.
