Who is Antonio Aracre, the new head of advisors to Alberto Fernández

Antonio Aracreformer CEO of the company Syngentais the new chief of advisors to the presidency of the Nation, after the hasty departure of Julian Leundainvolved in the scandal of hidden lake. This was confirmed by Aracre through his Twitter account: “The president @alferdez he honored me by appointing me as his chief advisor in the government since 1/2. A unique opportunity to learn about the state and contribute in whatever way you can to build the Argentina that we all want and deserve.”

“A dream come true after 37 years in private activity, to feel that I can give back to society even a little of everything that this country gave me. These things have a special meaning for those of us who come from humble origins and believe in the upward social mobility,” Aracre wrote on the social network, and announced that his first task will be to “open the government to the world of private investments that create jobs and can change people’s lives” and “agree with the opposition and the unions some essential points for the Argentina that we all want”.

The former CEO is an accountant, graduated from the Buenos Aires’ Universityand has postgraduate studies at the Argentine University of Business and the Southern University.

In October, Aracre had given indications of his subsequent appointment, announcing through his Twitter account his resignation from Syngenta, an agricultural company that produces seeds and pesticides. “After 36 years in the company and the last 12 as CEO for Latam Sur, I have decided to retire early from Syngenta as of December 31 of this year, to allow me to dream of new challenges”, Aracre had written in the bird network.

For the rest, in addition to having been a successful member of the business world, Aracre’s personality is of some interest: unlike a good part of the business world, he has access to government, and far from cultivating a low profile, he has a large presence in networks and in the media, where he was one of the promoters of the “soybean dollar”, the differential exchange rate that sought to encourage producers to liquidate the oilseed, and which was one of the policies promoted by Sergio Massashortly after reaching Ministry of Economy. Aracre is a friend of Martin Guzman since 2019, and often posts photos of his meetings with the former economy minister on social media.

Despite his closeness to the government, Aracre does not define himself “kirchnerista”, while stating that he defies labels since he was a child. “The fundamental thing is respect, empathy, listening. It would be very sad if your political thought – not even partisan, but if you consider yourself more progressive or more liberal – conditions you in what kind of job you can be in,” he declared in May to The Chronicler, exhibiting a kind of pragmatic thought.

Aracre seems to want to add a refreshing perspective to the government. Far from the usual hostile position that the toughest Kirchnerism tends to establish with the business community, the now brand-new head of advisers considers that the businessman has a role “as important in the public debate as a politician or a social leader.”

Something similar happens with the issue of inflation. Although Aracre considers that it has “different components”, he assures that the monetary factor is one of the most important, and that a “shock plan” could contribute to inflationary stabilization. However, he sees it as “difficult to implement” due to the “context of political polarity that we have today.”
