North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has a total of three children and the eldest is a son. Parliamentarians in South Korea have been told this by the intelligence services, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The second child would be the daughter with whom Kim appeared in the public several times since the end of last year. No details are known about the third child. Pyongyang itself reports almost nothing about Kim’s private life. It is not known when the children were born. South Korean media previously reported 2010, 2012 and 2017 as the probable years of birth.
Successor to Kim Jong Un
Kim came to power in 2011 after the death of his father Kim Jong-il, who succeeded his father Kim Il-sung. It is not known who will be the next leader. That is not automatically the eldest child of the current leader. Due to Kim’s daughter’s public appearances, rumors arose that he was preparing her as his successor. According to the intelligence services, Kim probably wants to prove the legitimacy of the fourth generation.

In power for 80 years
The Kim family has ruled North Korea since the 1940s, which is cut off from the rest of the world and struggles with food shortages and international sanctions, among other things. Tensions in the region have risen sharply under Kim Jong-un. For example, he had a record number of missile tests carried out last year and it is feared that this would be the first North Korean nuclear test since 2017.
South Korean intelligence officials believe Pyongyang will hold major military exercises this month or next to test a new intercontinental ballistic missile, Yonhap writes.
