Despite the fact that the women of Telstar make their appearance in the premier league, it wants to be anything but the ugly duckling. Dominque Bruinenberg returned to Velsen-Zuid this summer and immediately wants to score high with Telstar, which disappeared from the highest podium in 2017. “We want to finish in the left row,” says an ambitious Bruinenberg.
At the beginning of the year it was announced that Telstar would return to the top women’s league. The club strengthened Dominque Bruinenberg, who made his debut in the Eredivisie with Telstar in 2011. The midfielder returned to the old nest after seven years this summer. After several foreign adventures, she thought it was time to return to the premier league this summer. “We now train more often and we have everything it takes to perform”, says Bruinenberg as part of the professionalization.

Bruinenberg notices that women’s football in the Netherlands is on the rise. That is a good development according to the attacking midfielder. “The popularity of the sport has increased greatly. Every year experienced players come back to the Netherlands and at the same time the flow of talents does not stand still. In this way the quality increases. So these are all positive developments for women’s football.”
“Every year, experienced players return to the Netherlands and at the same time, the flow of talent does not stop.”
More and more clubs are now setting up a women’s branch. The women’s league grew from nine to eleven clubs last summer. Telstar, together with Fortuna Sittard, is the newcomer in the Eredivisie. Yet the captain does not experience that they are the newcomer.
Ajax will play at home against Fortuna Sittard on Friday. Telstar travels to The Hague and VV Alkmaar receives reigning national champion FC Twente.
Later this week, the women’s team of VV Alkmaar will have their say on nhsport.nl.
