The first round of the cup is always a special day for football fans in Germany. The draw mode promises that small amateur teams can take on the big ones like FC Bayern or BVB. Teams from the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 are classified in Pot 1. The state cup winners from the lower leagues can be found in pot 2. The exception are the four last-placed teams from the 2nd league, who also end up in pot 2, so that both pots are the same size. Each first-round game of the DFB Cup includes a team from both pots.

This time the new DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and World Champion Kevin Grosskreutz will appear as lottery fairies. The former Borussia player was able to bring the trophy to Dortmund himself in 2012. Is he now proving to be a lucky charm and will BVB find a good opponent?

As both teams play out the Supercup as reigning champions and cup winners on July 30th, the clubs have to play their DFB cup games on July 30th/31st. make up for August.
