In August, a special natural spectacle can be observed in the sky: when the earth touches the orbit of Comet Swift-Tuttle and the Perseid meteor shower, thousands of shooting stars rain down from the firmament.
Especially in the night from August 12th to 13th, astronomers expect a real shower of shooting stars.
Read here from which heights in Berlin shooting star hunting and general stargazing are particularly worthwhile.
★ Teufelsberg: The 120-meter-high mountain of rubble is surrounded by the dense Grunewald forest, which keeps out the lights of the big city and allows a great view first of the sunset and later of the stars. (Teufelsseechaussee 10, Wilmersdorf)
★Wuhletal hiking trail: The 15.4-kilometer route leads from Ahrensfelde in the north-east through the Wuhletal to the Berlin-Köpenick S-Bahn station in the south-east of Berlin. For a night walk, Kienberg (102 meters high), Ahrensfelder Berge (114.5 and 101 meters high) and Biesdorfer Höhe (82 meters high) are recommended as points for stargazing.
★ Hahneberg: The 87 meter high summit can be climbed in several ways – in any case, the effort is rewarded with a breathtaking view. (Hahnebergweg 50, Spandau)
