When is the 2022 NFL Draft?
The 87th draft in NFL history is being held in Las Vegas. From April 28-30, 2022, teams will have seven rounds to select the college players they wish to sign for their team.
In Germany, the 2022 NFL Draft begins on the night of April 29 due to the time difference. Here are the broadcast times for each round:
- Round 1: April 29 from 02:00
- Round 2 to 3: April 30 from 01:00
- Round 4 to 7: April 30 from 18:00

What exactly is the draft and how does it work?
The draft is a tried and tested concept, especially in US sports, with each league shaping it a little differently. In principle, it is about the teams being able to secure the best players from the junior college league. On the one hand, this ensures that there are youngsters and, on the other hand, it makes it easier for young players to get into the league.
The NFL – National League of Football – has its teams pick in the reverse order of the previous year. This means that the last-placed can choose the theoretically best young player. This balances out football in the long run and makes it harder for teams to be consistently good over a number of years.
Another exciting aspect of the draft is that the teams can trade their picks with each other, for example for certain more experienced players who switched teams before the draft. For example, a team can strike several times in the coveted first round. In general, the so-called draft class is less rigid this year than in previous years. But that also makes it more exciting for the viewers, because nobody knows which team is interested in which player.
