Beau van Erven Dorens recently has a new social sidekick in the studio: one Jeffrey Wirtz. Where did that kid even come from? “It was a tip from Luuk Ikink!”
Every talk show has it these days: a section with all kinds of lame internet videos and things on social media. Luuk Ikink was able to present that section in RTL Late Night for a long time, but a worthy successor never emerged. Beau van Erven Dorens has now recruited a certain Jeffrey Wirtz to discuss such a column.
Sidekick Jeffrey
Jeffrey has a penchant for everything related to artificial intelligence has to do with it, so we always have to look at Beau van Erven Dorens who speaks Chinese or a dinner guest who is suddenly ‘edited’ into some film. Last night it was Luuk Ikink’s turn, who was a guest on the show. And not just any guest…
Luuk turns out to be Jeffrey’s discoverer, just like Albert Verlinde was before him. “Apparently Beau Luuk called Ikink: ‘We are looking for a new sidekick, do you have any people?’ And then Luuk Ikink forwarded my YouTube channel, which is perhaps the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me,” says Jeffrey.
Impressed
Everyone was immediately very enthusiastic, says Jeffrey in one video on YouTube. “They were very impressed with my YouTube videos and the channel and they all thought what I was doing was beautiful and fun and funny and they wondered: ‘Would you like to join the TV?’ I had to think about that.”
He continues: “On YouTube you have complete freedom to make what you want to make and if I want to make a video about the Titan, I will. I thought about it for quite a long time and then I thought: you know, I think this could be a very good step, if only to see how such a production is made every day. I said, ‘Yes, let’s do it.’”
Trial episode
Two weeks later, Jeffrey was allowed to record a test episode and only three days before the start of Beau’s season did he hear that it was going to be him. “Then Monday went so well that they said: ‘This was so much fun, this was so funny, you’ll be back tomorrow.’ And then I was there again on Tuesday and on Tuesday things went very well again.”
He concludes: “Then they said, ‘You know what we’re doing? You’ll be there for the rest of the season. For the next six weeks you will be Beau’s sidekick.’”
