The film about the life of Michael Jackson, first announced in 2019, has a release date. The biopic about the King of Pop with Jaafar Jackson in the leading role will be released in cinemas on April 18, 2025. The start of production is now known at the end of January 2024.
Experienced filmmakers for “Michael”
The film, simply titled “Michael,” aims to show the triumphs and tragedies of the musician, who died in 2009. According to the official summary, space should be given to “his human side and personal problems through to his undeniable creative genius”.
The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua. His previous steps in the genre include “Rob Peace,” which will premiere soon, and the documentary “What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali” (2019). The producer of the Michael Jackson film will be Graham King, who, among other things, was involved in “Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018) about Queen’s Freddie Mercury.
The screenplay is provided by John Logan, who, in addition to two “James Bond” films, also wrote “Gladiator” (2000) and has already been awarded an Oscar three times. It is the first leading role for Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine Jackson and therefore Michael Jackson’s nephew.
“Michael” takes the place of “The Exorcist: Deceiver” on the release calendar. The horror film was recently postponed after director David Gordon Green left the project.
