When there were no mobile phones yet: 7 x old photos of telephone booths in Zoetermeer

Just an app to your friends or parents that you are a bit later, it used to be impossible without a mobile phone. Or letting the home front know through Facetime that you missed the train was absolutely unthinkable. How did we let that know? Just call in a pay phone!

Long waiting time

Sometimes we had to queue because we weren’t the only callers. Once in the cell you threw a quarter or guilder into the machine and typed in the phone number. Through the slightly greasy, black horn you reported what you had to say. You were unlucky if someone called family for a chat. But then again, we didn’t know any better than waiting.

We dug into the municipal archives in search of old photos of telephone booths in Zoetermeer. Can you still remember this one?
