When is it really worth redeeming discount coupons?

Why are there discount coupons at all?

The philosophy behind discount coupons is quite simple. Companies want to attract attention in order to attract more customers and win them over in the long term. From this point of view, discount campaigns and the provision of discount coupons are nothing more than a marketing measure. The coupons grant product-specific discounts and can be activated using a number or bar code or by showing them at the checkout.

There are different types of discount coupons. There are online coupons that can be redeemed on the Internet, coupons at grocery stores, in restaurants or in department and furniture stores. But other industries also use the coupons, which promise a discounted shopping experience. Customers can access the coupons via the Internet or brochures and newspapers, and some of the coupons are also found on flyers.

When it makes sense to redeem discount coupons and when not

Ultimately, it is clear that the companies will benefit from the discount campaigns offered, because they will make more sales in the long term through the newly acquired customer base. But private users can also benefit from the discounts on the coupons. If a buyer wants to buy a pack of milk anyway and the coupon promises two milk cartons for the price of one, that’s lucrative. And the discount coupons on the Internet often have a positive response, they can usually be redeemed with a code and guarantee an immediate price reduction.

However, redeeming a discount coupon is not worthwhile if the products are still cheaper despite the price reduction from another supplier. Also, a coupon is only truly money-saving if a customer has planned to buy a product anyway. Because if he is only tempted to buy because of the coupon, he even spends more than originally planned. Other coupons, such as those from amusement parks, also have their pitfalls. They are usually limited in time and, so to speak, force a person to make a purchase decision relatively quickly. A customer should be aware of this.

A few little things to keep in mind

There is something special about furniture stores. According to “What’s worth it”, many furniture stores set arbitrary prices anyway, so-called “moon prices”, which rarely have anything to do with the real value of the goods. Here in particular it is important to check the prices from other providers, as these can be even cheaper despite the discount coupon.

It is also advisable to always read the fine print on the coupons. These are often linked to conditions, limited in number or only apply for a certain period of time.
