Today on TV Soloingin the movie Kristiina Elstelän character Lea Abrahamsson shares two pieces of life advice.
The first of them is addressed to men: under no circumstances cheat on your wife.
The instructions for women are a bit more creative.
– When everything goes wrong, bake a pancake, the advice goes.
Sixteen years have passed since the release of the film, but that line has remained alive.
The statement has ended up in the headlines of blog posts, Twitter updates and, of course, as part of pancake recipes.
Lauri Nurksen directed by and Katja Kallion the film he wrote also left behind numerous other flying phrases. Elstelä’s (1943–2016) demented character Lea is especially sharp with her mouth and is not afraid to show her disapproval when her conductor son Joel (Kari-Pekka Toivonen) introduces his new lover, newspaper reporter Emma Huilun (Saija Lentonen).
The film, released in 2007, became a commercial success and a favorite among critics. Elstelä was awarded the best supporting actress Juss for her role.

The lightning-drenched Joel and Emma’s relationship is tested from the beginning. Emma has a hard time adjusting to taking care of her new partner’s temperamental amnesiac mother while Joel travels the world for his job.
Emma soon discovers that she is pregnant. The relationship between Emma and Lea is perhaps starting to warm up a little. At the same time, however, Joel finds himself in another woman’s bed.
The film is also remembered for its soundtrack: the theme song of the film shot in the idyllic scenery of Jollas, Helsinki my home is not here was the initial impetus Chisun to a successful pop career.
