When dance heals | iO Woman

Stthey call Placebo dances and are practices, exercises and dance in search of a state of grace and well-being, who want to “activate a healing process in those who practice them and in the bodies of those who observe them”. An opportunity to discover them is Wednesday 6 September at 6pm in Bologna as part of the Danza Urbana Festival (from 5 to 10 September), the performance workshop curated by Flavia Zaganelli, with Maria Durbà and Francesca Siracusa. info: urbandance.eu

Dancing helps the mood and the brain, especially after the age of 65

Dancing (for free) against cancer

From North to South, there are already 15 dance schools that have joined the project “Dance for oncology” by British dancer and choreographer Carolyn Smith (who was president of the jury of the Rai 1 talent show Dancing with the Stars) and who starting from October will offer free dance lessons (one or two a week), of every style, for those who are undergoing cancer treatments and have come of age.

« We have trained 50 teachers. The proposed courses will also be suitable for those who feel very fragile and have movement difficulties, who can’t lift their arms, have numbness in their feet, or have trouble keeping their balance,” says Smith, herself undergoing treatment for breast cancer. « Forbidden to talk about the disease during the lessons – it is the rule, recalls the dancer.

Dancing helps relieve pain and while you learn the steps you can take a break from the stress of the treatment path». To find the nearest school and get information about the courses: dance4oncology.it Chiara Daina
