She was already a “Wheel of Fortune” fairy and jungle queen. Now Maren Gilzer (61) also wants to become mayor!
On Sunday she will stand for the FDP as a candidate in the mayoral elections in Oberkrämer (12,000 inhabitants in Brandenburg). She is currently out and about catching votes with her “Maren-Mobil”. Shortly before the election, Maren Gilzer told the BZ: “There are seven applicants for the post of mayor. I think there are many who want a change. Now I’m curious to see whether the chief merchants dare to choose someone from outside as dazzling as me. Someone who has completely different contacts and brings a breath of fresh air.”
She couldn’t even assess “how brave the Oberkramer” were. Is the actress (“In All Friendship”) excited? Gilzer: “Yes, I’m super excited. No matter how the election turns out, a change is definitely good for Oberkrämer.”
The BfO (editor’s note “Bürger für Oberkrämer”) tried very hard to advance some good things. Gilzer: “But if you don’t have a party in the background that sits in the district, in the state, in the federal government and is in important positions where you can also get something done, it’s difficult. I think some of the other candidates underestimated that.”
You, on the other hand, also have other supporters from business who could sponsor a lot. Gilzer: “I also have many cultural contacts that could bring a bit more color and fun to Oberkrämer.” Is Oberkrämer lacking in fun? Gilzer to the BZ: “At the moment, Oberkrämer has become quite a sleeping place for the people who still work and commute in Berlin. They come home and netflix. There are hardly any restaurants in Oberkrämer.” And further: “Especially in the winter months there is very little cultural activity. There used to be more. Even in GDR times when my brother lived there.”
That should change when Gilzer reigns! “I have very different visions for Oberkrämer than the other candidates. It’s not just about the essentials, such as a better infrastructure or another school, which of course is absolutely necessary. I also want the attitude towards life to be a little nicer.”
And how does Gilzer intend to do that? With more culture and gastronomy! Gilzer: “One dream would be that the deserted village square would once again become a meeting place for the citizens. There are no restaurants, bakers or butchers. I wish for restaurants with honest cuisine at affordable prices. I miss that.” And further: “Or playgrounds and park benches on the village square, where people can meet and talk.” A “pavilion for plays or small concerts by bands” would also be conceivable for Gilzer. With her connections she would like to support the cultural association in Oberkrämer.
“Everyone has been longing to meet up even more since the pandemic. Of course, you also need restaurants and meeting places for this.”
Gilzer also has a plan for more transparency: “I would also like to introduce a radio station that reports hourly on the latest developments in municipal administration. If I were to become mayor, I would introduce a citizens’ consultation hour at the radio station in Oberkrämer and answer questions.”
