WhatsApp tests file sharing up to 2 GB | Tech

Users of the WhatsApp chat app have been able to forward files to other users since 2017. The limit for that has always been 100 MB. WhatsApp has now started testing a new file size limit. This is a selective group from Argentina that only receives a notification when the file exceeds the 2 GB limit. Regular users will already see this notification at 100 MB.

Since 2020, users of the competing chat app Telegram have been able to share files of 2 GB with others. It is not clear whether WhatsApp has plans to make the extension available in more countries or whether the feature will eventually come to all users.
