Metas WhatsApp allows users to see for themselves how many messages and how many files have been exchanged with which contacts. We’ll show you how to access this feature.
Here’s how it works
The statistics are displayed on both Android and iOS-devices in the app of the messenger service. The path there is also identical for both systems.
The first step is to open the WhatsApp messenger app. Then go to the settings and select “Data and storage usage”. The menu item “Memory Usage” now appears below, which you must click on. If you have followed the points in order, a list will now appear in descending order that shows you with which contacts and in which group chats you exchange the most storage-intensive data and files.
If you want to know how many messages you have exchanged with individual contacts, you must select that contact. You will then be shown all the detailed information regarding the number of messages, pictures, videos or voice messages you have exchanged with that contact.
First place does not necessarily go to the most popular contact
However, if a contact or a WhatsApp group chat is at the top, even though you hardly exchange messages with each other, this is due to the amount of photos and videos sent. The data size of these media is far larger than the consumed space of text messages. Perhaps the contact you text the most with comes second or third.
If you have now found that the data traffic with some contacts is greater than you thought and you do not want to use up all the storage space on your smartphone, there is a remedy here too. In the settings of the app, under the menu item “Data and storage usage” you can make changes regarding automatic downloads of media and switch on the reduced data consumption.
