Tens of thousands of people in Germany are currently unable to use the instant messaging service. Messages can neither be sent nor received.
The portal “All Disorders” has counted more than 200,000 reports from those affected in this country since 9 a.m.
Apparently, the disruption, which affects Android smartphones and Apple iPhones alike, also goes beyond Germany. Numerous users from abroad comment on Twitter that nothing works.
Reasons for the failure are not yet known. It is also unclear when WhatsApp will work again. Neither the company itself nor its parent company Meta (formerly Facebook) have commented so far.
