WhatsApp is constantly working on expanding its range of functions, both large and small. Now the messenger apparently brings two innovations that affect the classic text message.
WhatsApp made a breakthrough as a free SMS replacement. But the messenger has long been able to do more than just send text messages: voice messages and images in HD quality, telephony via the Internet and group voice chats are just the largest functions that are now included in the WhatsApp package. Now the classic text message is to be given a little finishing touch with a new citation function. The second innovation, on the other hand, is aimed at a fairly specific target group.
New quote feature
The previous options for formatting a text message only included the font settings italic, bold, strikethrough and solid. TECHBOOK explains how this works in this WhatsApp article. But now another function is to be added, thanks to which you can format parts of the message as a quote. There is already a similar trick where you can mark an entire message and then reply. This makes it immediately clear which message you are referring to.
In the future, however, it should also be possible to format individual parts of a message as a quote, so that misunderstandings can be avoided even better. This feature could prove useful, especially in dynamic group chats or with a long message that contains several topics.
Code snippets and shopping lists
The second function should primarily help software developers, programmers and other users in the tech field who regularly exchange code snippets. Previously, anyone who wanted to share their code or excerpts of it via WhatsApp had to send a rather confusing pile of information, which made reading and sharing correspondingly more difficult.
However, that should soon be over. The Code Block feature allows users to format lines of code to make them easier to read. The blog WABetaInfo writes: “The ‘Code Block’ function was developed to make sharing and reading lines of code on WhatsApp much more convenient.” And there is also one last small improvement for those who normally have little to do with codes: The Text messages can soon also be structured in bulleted lists.
At the moment, these features are still being tested in WhatsApp desktop beta. As soon as WhatsApp officially rolls them out to all users, the desktop version of the messenger could move closer to the classic chat programs for the office.
