Albert Verlinde disappeared from television overnight. We hardly ever see him again, proving once again that everyone is replaceable. What was the real reason?
For years, Albert Verlinde was the man whose opinion you wanted to know as a TV viewer. Well, about non-topics then. He made RTL Boulevard great and was in the twilight of his TV career with the less prestigious Shownieuws. But last summer he suddenly left there and since then Albert has been very little on TV.
Albert suddenly disappeared
Albert indicated that he wanted to take it easy and that the show media had become so spicy. “If you are already very busy… Then it is not so much the program, but everything around it that makes it very tiring. Any comments that come with it…”
He then continued: “Then I think: do I still want it all? That if I say something: húp, another 38 sites that are busy! At some point you will be done with that. It’s a bit of a factor.”
How are you now?
How is Albert now? And how does he look back on his silent TV exit? Wasn’t there a secret fight? He tells in weekly magazine Party: “For me, stopping at Shownieuws was purely because of the time.”
He continues: “That late broadcast at eleven o’clock in the evening, you have to be fully switched on so late in the evening and keep your head up in such a live show. Then I drove home and I was home in Amsterdam around 12:30 am, then I was still wide awake bouncing on the couch because of those bright lights, the concentration and the adrenaline of the live show.”
Night vomiting
Impossible, says Albert. “I am someone who really needs those eight hours of sleep a night, so night vomiting was not for me. It was a rhythm of going to bed very late, sleeping restlessly and going full throttle the next day.”
He concludes: “I admire everyone who does it, but I just didn’t like it.”
