With their song “Blood & Glitter” at the ESC preliminary round 2023, Lord of the Lost proved that as a rousing live act they manage to convince an audience of millions. With almost 40 percent of the audience votes, they catapulted themselves to the top despite the modest jury rating. Hamburg will thus represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest on May 13, 2023 in Liverpool.
Lord of the Lost: Cast
Founding member is singer, guitarist and cellist Chris Harms, who also calls himself “The Lord”. He initially started a musical solo project in 2007, after appearing as a singer and guitarist in the bands Philiae and The Pleasures.
In 2009, a band developed from the solo project, the original name Lord became Lord of the Lost – not least to avoid confusion with Lordi and the German beat band “The Lords”. In the years that followed, the line-up changed several times. Together with Klaas Helmecke on bass, Gerrit Heinemann on piano, Niklas Kahl on drums and π (Pi) on guitar, Lord of the Lost now form an infernal quintet that wants to win Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool.
Music fans already know the dark rock band from performances at Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Wacken Open Air and M’era Luna Festival. In addition, Lord of the Lost have been on tour since 2014. The group played their first shows in the USA – the tour had financed the band via crowdfunding.
Lord of the Lost: Iron Maiden are fans
Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris praised in one Interview with the British Metal Hammer the music of the German band. In 2020, Lord of the Lost should even come on tour as support. However, due to the Corona crisis, the shows of the “Legacy of the Beast” tour were postponed and could only take place in 2022. The Hamburgers finally had the opportunity to tour with the British heavy metal legends.
Lord of the Lost: Tour and Lordfest 2023
Those who want to see Lord of the Lost live will have plenty of opportunities to do so in the coming months. The band has several live shows planned in Germany over the summer. They will also join Iron Maiden for shows on their The Future Past tour. And the group even organizes its own festival. In December 2023, the band plans to once again bring together more dark rock and heavy metal acts for their Lordfest.
The Lord of the Lost musicians are definitely hard-working: Chris Harms explains that he has already written more than 100 songs in his life. In the course of the band’s career, eleven albums have already been released:

According to Harms, his musical influences include acts such as Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails, but also Marilyn Manson and even songs by Roxette. This is also noticeable in the varied sound, which ranges from brute tracks to strongly melodic ballads. The songs from Lord of the Lost show that the band is not afraid of musical experiments and feels at home in many genres.
A successful Roxette cover of “The Look” proves that the band enjoys the music and doesn’t take itself too seriously – and none other than Blümchen alias Jasmin Wagner supported the vocals.
