Electric car batteries don’t do well at all in the cold. In winter, there is also an increasing demand for electricity for car heating. How do drivers still achieve maximum range?

In freezing temperatures, it is advisable to preheat e-cars at the charging station before driving off. In this way, the heating process does not eat up valuable battery capacity.

That’s what the testing organization Society for Technical Monitoring (GTÜ) advises.

If you use the steering wheel and seat heating instead of the interior heating and the eco mode when driving, you also save valuable energy.

It is also advisable to park your electric car in the garage.

When it’s cold, the performance of the battery decreases.

Temperatures are generally milder in the garage. It is even better to charge the car there as well. This significantly shortens the loading process.

But one thing should also be clear: Saving money is good, but drivers usually don’t have to be afraid of being stuck in traffic because the battery is empty due to the heater. According to GTÜ, the range of modern e-cars is sufficient for everyday use even in cold temperatures.
