Borussia Dortmund could face the next upheaval in the summer. The future of Jude Bellingham, who has been courted by numerous top clubs, as well as that of Mats Hummels and Marco Reus is open. BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl comments on the current situation.
“Jude feels very, very comfortable at Borussia Dortmund, but there are no new talks, let alone requests for him,” Kehl told “Bild”. “We need Jude to achieve our goals this season and we’re glad he’s so focused on football and has no other issues on his mind at the moment.”
The only 19-year-old Bellingham had developed into one of the most important performers at BVB in the past few months. Although his contract expires in 2025 and does not contain an exit clause, rumors of a change in the coming summer have recently circulated. There is a transfer fee well over 100 million euros for the English international.
“Jude still has two years of contract and is a very important part of this team. That’s why I naturally wish that he would play for BVB longer,” said Kehl.
Are Mats Hummels and Marco Reus leaving BVB? That’s what Sebastian Kehl says
According to the current status, Hummels and Reus could even leave BVB free of charge. The contracts of the two veterans expire after the season.
“We are in an open and honest exchange with each other. But so far there is nothing to report. The way in which both are involved shows that they are fully committed to this team and are doing everything to ensure that we achieve our goals for the season,” explained Kehl.
While talks with Hummels about further cooperation were said to be later planned from the outset, Reus is said to be disappointed with those responsible because of the hanging game about his future.
According to media reports, BVB’s top earner is also not willing to cut back on his fixed salary. However, from the club’s point of view, these should be a mandatory requirement for a contract extension.
