What will be the improvements on line D, which interrupts service until March

“The work that has just begun will fundamentally allow us to increase the frequency of the service, especially during peak hours. It is a high-impact optimization so that all residents can travel faster and with the best safety standards,” the head of the Buenos Aires Government highlighted in a statement. Jorge Macri.

The head of the Buenos Aires executive stated that the modernization work started in the D line will generate a significant improvement in the quality of the services provided by the subway that connects the stations Cathedral and Congress of Tucumán. In a tour he took of the beach where the workshops operate, in the Belgrano neighborhood, Macri pointed out that when this task is completed and the services are rehabilitated “the waiting time between one training session and another will be reduce to three and a half minutes”.

Currently, the service is almost 5 minutes waiting. “This means less travel time, less crowding at the stations and more comfort in the carriages,” stressed the Pro representative. In addition, he stressed that this infrastructure transformation that is underway will be done by incorporating the most advanced technology.

On the tour, the Head of Government was accompanied by Matias Kielak, operational director of the company Subterráneos de Buenos Aires (SBASE). The work that began these days will continue until next March 17. The works include the modernization of all signaling equipment and the replacement of 31 change machines, which will improve the regularity and efficiency of the service.

“The new signaling system, called Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC), is already working in the lines C and H. Now comes the time to provide this instrumentation to line D, which has 16 stations and is one of the stations with the highest passenger flow on the network with an average of 215 thousand daily users. That is why we decided to do the works during the summer, which is when it decreases by around a 40 percent the number of people who travels on the subway,” explained the Head of Government.

“We are also going to take advantage of this stoppage to improve all security measures. The systems that control formations are increasingly automatic. It is an intelligent system with a lot of redundancy with sensors that count up to the number of axles that pass,” said Macri and added: “With these cameras we will be able to intervene and respond quickly in case of snatch or theft, as well as prevent or detect “any suspicious situation of insecurity inside the carriages. This was one of the proposals I made during the electoral campaign.”

Finally, simultaneously with all these interventions, the total remodeling of the Faculty of Medicine station within the framework of Comprehensive Station Renewal Plan that carries forward SBASE. The restoration of the station includes waterproofing work, painting, replacement of flooring and lighting, blacksmithing, rearrangement of electrical wiring, adaptation of signage, placement of Braille signage on handrails and porches and new furniture on platforms with benches, baskets and ischial supports.
