“What’s there is certainly worth preserving,” concludes De Vries. The board of the Drukkerijmuseum is thinking about the future. One of the ideas is to make it a graphic center.
The fact that the museum is located in a national monument has a major disadvantage. Maintenance costs are high. “It is their choice which building they are in,” says Bos. The board has looked into whether moving to another location is an option, but is not convinced. “As a museum, you want to be in the center of the city, you have to be easily accessible. On the outskirts of the city is not an option for us,” Stein van Ittersum previously told RTV Drenthe.
The opposition will come up with a proposal in the upcoming city council, says Egbert Knorren, leader of the CDA. The party had already asked questions about the subsidy at the previous council meeting. “It has become clear that more money alone is not going to work. There is something in the pipeline, but how and what, we are still thinking about that with the other opposition parties. The board will have to take a step, but the municipality too. They have to do it together.”
The VVD, part of the coalition, recently visited the museum and entered into discussions with the board. “We have turned the question around,” says party chairman Jan Roelof Meesters. “What are the other possibilities? We are also thinking about other organizations and the business community. They also benefit from this museum.”
He speaks of a partial responsibility. “It cannot just be the case that the museum holds up its hand. We must come to a joint plan. Otherwise, we will also stick to our point of view.”
Alderman Bos agreed cassata indicates that as alderman she is an “executive body” of the council. This council sets the rules for where and how much subsidy can be given. “If the council wants the Drukkerijmuseum to be preserved, the council itself must come up with a proposal. And with a proposal where that money should come from,” says Bos.
