FOUR AND 1/2 STARS

The only one that Marvel has done well in recent years is this animated series which recalls on the one hand the style of 1940s Superman (the colors, the settings) and then, the true poetics of comics: short stories, full of action and credible and lovable characters.

This second seasonin which the action playfully crosses over several genres (from noir in the first episode to the swashbuckling adventure of Robin Hood in the eighth, plus a Die Hard parody as a Christmas special), also focuses more on a couple of characters (Hela from Cate Blanchett or, above all, Captain Carter of Hayley Attwell) and in the playful idea that animation is a field of enormous freedom.

There is a lot of love for these characters and these stories in What If…?and much more freedom than in the increasingly staid and timid genre of cinematic superheroes.
