After the murder of Peter R. de Vries, his last lover Tahmina Akefi continuously appeared in the media, but we have not heard from her in recent years. What happened to her? “Self-preservation.”

Just under six months after the murder of Peter R. de Vries, Tahmina Akefi revealed herself in prime time on NPO 1 as the girlfriend of the crime journalist. She kept her identity a secret for six years, but then emphatically sought the spotlight. It made viewers uncomfortable that she shared so many private details about their relationship, including their arguments.

Where is Tahmina?

All in all it was a somewhat strange public introduction to Tahmina. In the following months, she was almost continuously bashed by all kinds of media figures, but she is also said to have caused annoyance among Peter’s other relatives. At one point she was even called the new Rachel Hazes.

Anyway: it has been quiet around Tahmina in recent years. Very quiet. She was also not present yesterday at the ruling of the appeal against the main suspects behind Peter’s murder. The court in Amsterdam sentenced shooter Delano G. and the driver of the getaway car Kamil E. to 27.5 years in prison.

‘She can’t do it’

Presenter Airen Mylene finds it striking that Tahmina did not want to be there. “The children and his ex-wife were present, but the woman at the time of Peter R. de Vries’ death was not there,” she says in Show news.

Story boss Guido den Aantrekker then: “Tahmina. A journalist of Afghan origin, once a refugee. She once met Peter during the recording of Pauw. Afterwards they indeed became a loving couple. She was indeed not present because she simply cannot cope, still cannot.”

Self-preservation

It is too emotional for Tahmina, Guido thinks. He points out the plans the two had on the day he was shot. “They were of course such a close loving couple in recent years and were actually on their way that day to view a house where they wanted to live together.”

“She simply said: ‘For self-preservation I simply cannot be here.’”
