What else can be done with residual flows in the agricultural sector? Inagro Beitem will investigate it from now on

To this end, Inagro is looking for partners such as companies, governments or other research institutions to collaborate on the circular economy. “We notice an intensive interest in the sector because they think every day about how things can be done better and more sustainably at their companies,” says Mia Demeulemeester of Inagro. “Profitability is also an important factor, so Inagro wants to investigate what is feasible and what requires more research, and we want to do that in the Living Web Circular.”

Other residual flows

In agriculture there are quite a few side streams that are now being lost and are actually useful. Brussels sprouts have Brussels sprouts canes after harvesting and there is also something to do with that. “There was a demand from the industry to supply fibers, as in the paper industry,” says researcher Reindert Dezaadynck. “When we brought them together, we saw that those Brussels sprouts can be a source for the paper industry.”

But there are still many possibilities: wastewater from various companies can also be used to grow plants. In the Circular Living Lab they test waste water from frozen food companies and Aquafin, among others.
