The relatives of Chris Grinwis do not know what is in the suicide note of poison murder suspect Yvon K.. Lawyer Mark van Raak represents the surviving relatives and was a guest on Omroep Brabant’s talk show KRAAK on Sunday. “The content is unknown to us. And it may remain that way.” He also says that he does not expect the letter to contain the answer to the question on everyone’s mind: did Yvon K. poison supermarket owner Chris Grinwis or not?
Due to the self-inflicted death of suspect Yvon K., the trial in the case was stopped and ended just before the finish on Monday. Sad for the relatives, Van Raak indicated again on Sunday.
“I can imagine that the court is going to hit the delete button.”
“We are no longer going to find out what the judge’s ruling said,” he says. “I can imagine that the court on the delete-button will be pressed. How unfortunate,” he answers when asked whether the statement will now remain in a drawer somewhere or end up in the paper shredder.
Because the lawyer is convinced that there is a ruling. He cannot imagine that the verdict in such a major case that was to be pronounced on Wednesday still had to be written on Monday afternoon.
“We hoped that the judge would lift a glimpse of the veil.”
Van Raak will not make any statement on Sunday about the other issue that concerns many people in this case, that of inheritance. “It’s a civil issue that I’m really not going to say anything about right now,” he says firmly.
Van Raak assisted Chris Grinwis’ three sisters, the sisters’ children and Grinwis’s step-granddaughter in the criminal trial, which ultimately ended in great disappointment for them. “We hoped that the judge would lift the veil. The hearing had already ended. Yvon K. had given the last word. Then you hope to get more answers.”
