Students in secondary vocational education (MBO) have the feeling that they do not count. They do not feel seen by The Hague and policy makers.
As a result, half a million young people are at risk of becoming demotivated, Trouw reports following an investigation into this group by the RIVM and the Amsterdam UMC. This feeling of not counting is partly due to the fact that the group is characterized as low-educated.
And the label ‘low’ sticks out. “I’m only an MBO student”, one of the MBO students describes the feeling.
