What do you think: Municipalities should be obliged to receive asylum seekers for an indefinite period

The cabinet wants municipalities to offer 7,500 recognized refugees a temporary home in the next six weeks, sources report to the NOS. For example, space must be freed up in the asylum reception. The cabinet is also asking the municipalities to arrange 225 extra reception places in each security region. The Hague also wants to counter that.

The cabinet proposes that the mayors of the security council coordinate the implementation. This meeting includes the chairmen of the 25 security regions, all mayors of larger municipalities.

As a compensation for this effort, the cabinet is offering thirty officials per security region to arrange these places in practice. It is also the intention that bus transport and medical care will be arranged by the government.

This year, an extra 40 million euros will also be set aside for the construction of homes for status holders. These are asylum seekers who have received a residence permit. The requirements for temporary housing for this group are being relaxed.

Last Monday, the cabinet did not come to a solution with the security meeting. After last Monday, mayors complained that the cabinet asked, but offered nothing. The aim is to jointly make a plan for the stalled asylum reception. Meeting will be held again at the end of this week.

Is temporary shelter for 7,500 recognized refugees sufficient, or must municipalities receive refugees for an indefinite period of time?
