What do you do in August when it’s 30 degrees? Ice skating of course!

With a temperature of thirty degrees it was warm again in Drenthe today. Not really weather that makes you think of winter sports. But they think differently in Emmen. The Interest Association Het Oude Centrum has set up an artificial ice rink in the center.

The idea arose a few weeks ago during the water spectacle in the center of Emmen, which attracted many children. “Why wouldn’t we even do that on frozen ice?” says Willem Meijer of the Association of Interests. “Then you can wait until December, January or February. If we want to show ourselves extra in Emmen, we have to do it now.”

According to Meijer, such a rink is ecologically sound, because it is an artificial ice rink. You skate on plastic sheets. “We spray a kind of soap on it every two hours. Then you can slide on it well. We don’t need electricity or other fuel. It would of course be too crazy for words if you were going to do something with ice on electricity. you better get an ice cream from the ice cream parlor.”

The track is still there until 6 p.m. on Thursday.
