What are the red alerts when buying products online?

Online purchases are becoming more frequent in the country, for this reason it is necessary to know certain aspects of the transactions. The first thing you need to know is that when you make a purchase online there is the option to return what you purchased, always in the same conditions that it was received. According to article 441 of the National Civil and Commercial Code, and 4 and 9 of Law 24,240 on Consumer Protection, there are 10 days to repent.

In this regard, the costs involved in the return are the responsibility of the seller. According to article 1110 of the Civil Code, any notice prohibiting returns has no legal value. Although the law protects the cyber buyer, it must be taken into account that certain items cannot be returned. For example: personalized products, CDs, videos or computer programs and newspapers (Civil and Commercial Code, article 1116), among others.

Regarding purchases abroad, especially items that are difficult to obtain in the country, you should know that Argentine law protects purchases made on national sites with greater guarantees, because rules of privacy come into play when purchasing from foreign portals. private international law, which can complicate the picture. On the other hand, Argentine companies have the obligation to report the name and CUIT number, whether in the traditional sale or in the one made by telephone, mail or internet.

It is advisable to buy from recognized sites, with experience in online buying and selling, and discard offers that reach us by mass email. Verify other customers’ experiences with the sites we buy from and whether those users are real or were faked. If the latter is true, it is a red alert that the site or seller is not trustworthy.

It is safer to buy with a credit card. Avoid money orders or through money transfer companies that do not allow the seller to be verified. You should never pay outside the platform through which you buy, since most of these pages offer guarantees of protection to the buyer against possible contingencies.

Finally, obtain all receipts, invoices, photos, text used to promote products, data sent by email and even the URL address where the purchase was made. In the event of any difficulty, these will be your complaint tools. Read conditions before the final cost of the purchase, previously ensuring the stock, including shipping and whether there is insurance or whether it is paid separately.
