What are the craziest graduations in the world?

Well, there is everything. From ancient ceremonies that include burning folders or IDs to more recent and crazy celebrations in which new professionals are expected to dress to their liking. What? Retire the title dressed as Pikachu? And why not? After all, finishing a university degree is no small feat and everyone celebrates it – if they can – as they see fit.

For this reason, for example, in the old university of Coimbra, in Portugal, the celebration of having finished includes a big party but also a crazier tradition called “the burning of the ribbons” (or, in the original language, “a queima das fintas”). It involves burning ribbons with the color of the degree that is being concluded (Law, Architecture, Design) on a specific day in May and, as if to add more excitement, at night. With this ritual the academic year ends and the graduation celebrations begin. This ceremony was so widely accepted that today it is celebrated in many other universities in the country.

Miles away, in Japan, another house of higher education upped the ante and allows Design graduates to dress as creatively as they can for the delivery of their degrees. This is the Faculty of Arts of the University of Kanazawa and because of the colorful and funny parade of new graduates, the photos of their graduations soon went viral. After all, it’s not so common to see the Mario Bros. mushroom receiving a diploma either.

In NorwayOn the other hand, the originality is not so much of the university students as of the secondary students, who when they finish that part of the educational cycle organize a kind of UPD (Last First Day) with a mix of carnival. The details last a whole month (starts in April and ends in May) and for that they rent and decorate buses that take them on tours throughout the country. The plan is to walk around, drink a lot of beer, dance as much as possible and, of course, have as much sex as possible. Throughout those four weeks they stop from town to town and from rave to rave (rave is what electronic parties are called), so at the front of the bus is a driver who is not only adult but also sober.

Much calmer – a little hippie, even – is the graduation celebration of the students of Warren Wilson College, in USA. As this house of higher education is strongly oriented towards careers linked to ecology and caring for the environment (among other things, they recycle all the garbage generated by the campus and only buy from local suppliers) at the graduation ceremony Give each new professional a fir tree. The idea? May it accompany you – and be planted – in the next place life takes you.

But those who are definitely overly creative are the architects who graduated from the University of Notre Dame, in Indiana, United States. The tradition there indicates that, over the cap that all university students in the United States usually wear, boys and girls can use buildings, bridges, monuments and even cathedrals made of cardboard, so that you can know at a glance what they are about. they received. The result of this custom is that each degree presentation becomes a parade of designs, one more creative than the other, through which the new architects show part of what they learned in all those years of study.

With thousands of students on its campus and being one of the most prestigious and oldest universities in the world (it was created in 1222), the University of Padua, in Italy It becomes much less solemn when celebrating a new graduation and precisely for this reason those who access their degree must prepare to receive jokes and “charges” of all kinds, both from colleagues and family. In true Italian style, it is always celebrated with laughter and new professionals must be ready to go through the most hilarious situations. A classic of that moment is to organize a dinner with the new graduate and, after the meal, disappear so that the new lawyer or agronomist takes care of the bill. How are you?

The world is big, and the ingenuity of the students to have an unforgettable graduation is even greater. Effort is always rewarded, and sometimes, it also has very crazy celebrations and more than exotic dresses.
